Job Description:

SharkNinja is looking for a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Ninja R& D team. We seek a creative problem solver who possesses an intuitive grasp of physics and engineering fundamentals, is equally comfortable hacking together a prototype in the lab or analyzing the results of a test, and is passionate about solving the tough engineering challenges required to be the first to deliver innovative new kitchen products to market. The R& D team is responsible for "how things work" in our products. New technologies and innovations must be implemented within tight constraints and on accelerated timelines. To accomplish that, the Senior Mechanical Engineer participates in idea generation, prototype design and construction, and working with a cross-functional team to determine what our new products should be and how to make them. They run tests, gather data, analyze it, and develop theories that may be referenced in product development here for years to come - or overturned with tomorrow's test results as they build an even deeper understanding of how things work. This role is involved heavily at the front-end of the product development cycle but also supports products all the way up to mass production, continuously working to push the limits of product performance. The Senior Mechanical Engineer works collaboratively with other engineers in R& D as well as other disciplines ranging from Electrical Engineering to Product Marketing in the pursuit of making amazing, 5-star-rated products. This includes creating validation rigs; developing and executing test plans; analyzing data; and evaluating tradeoffs between key architecture items.Drive cross functional conversations with both technical and non-technical teams to define the product and product requirements.Embrace a "progress over perfection" mentality while also balancing a "details make the difference" mindset to improve product performance over successive prototype builds.Represent the engineering function of the project in leadership reviews, core team, and company meetings.Guide and mentor junior engineers during the product development process.Collaborate with our overseas technical teams in the U.K. and China offices.Due to the hands-on nature of the role working with prototypes this is an in-person role at our Needham, MA office.Minimum Qualifications:B.S. or M.S. in Engineering (Mechanical or similar discipline)Typically, 5+ years of related experience working on electro-mechanical or consumer product developmentExperience working in a fast-paced, startup type environment: Comfortable multitasking and responding quickly to shifting priorities without losing sight of longer-term projects and goalsAbility to break down complex problems into first principles, generate a plan/approach to resolve the problems, and then execute using a fail-fast and "progress over perfection" mindset.Strong understanding of mechanical engineering/physics fundamentals including heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical designExperience communicating/presenting technical details to leadership, technical, and non-technical team members in a clear and effective manner.Experience with general hands on mechanical and electrical fabrication (power tools, sheet metal work, electrical wiring)Experience with rapid prototyping techniques such as 3D printing, sheet metal fabrication, foam/cardboard models.Advanced skills in using Excel (or similar programs) to organize and analyze test dataPreferred Qualifications:Experience working with/mentoring junior engineers and team membersSuccessfully delivered at least one product from idea to commercializationInterest in controls development and working alongside Software/EE/Controls engineers to support control system developmentProficient CAD userPassion for cooking and food is a plus! Our purpose is to positively impact people's lives every day in every home around the world!
