The State of Connecticut Judicial Branch is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Assistant Bar Counsel at the Statewide Bar Counsel's Office in East Hartford, CT. Under the direction of the Statewide Bar Counsel, the Assistant Bar Counsel serve as counsel to the Statewide Grievance Committee in its adjudication of attorney grievance complaints and its general oversight of attorney regulation in Connecticut. Duties include, but are not limited to, attending public disciplinary hearings to serve as Statewide Grievance Committee counsel; advising the Committee members during hearings; preparing written final decisions; attending meetings of the Committee; reviewing attorney advertisements; conducting audits of attorney trust accounts and investigating reported overdrafts; overseeing the attorney registration and multi-jurisdiction practice processes; drafting rules regarding attorneys; serving as counsel to the Commission on Minimum Continuing Legal Education; and serving as counsel to the Standing Committee on Guardians Ad Litem and Attorneys for the Minor Child in Family Matters.
Salary Range: $97,383 - $123,759/year – plus State of Connecticut benefits. New employees begin at the minimum. The starting salary for existing state employees may be higher than the minimum, in accordance with existing Judicial Branch policy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY: Considerable knowledge of law and legal process, legal principles and practice; knowledge of relevant State and Federal laws; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; considerable ability to analyze legal problems, present statements of fact, law, and argument.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAININGGeneral Experience: Membership in the Connecticut Bar and one (1) year of experience in litigation.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Incumbents may be required to travel in the course of their daily work.
