Job Description Project/Program: NYSDOL Data Warehouse | UISIM
project support The position is in support of the Department of
Labor's (DOL) Unemployment Insurance System’s operational
functions. This role involves administering DB2 databases on Red
Hat Linux. The ideal candidate will guide state and collaborate
with cross-functional teams in these areas. Day-to-Day Tasks: Daily
tasks include, but are not limited to: Morning Check-in: Review
overnight alerts and monitoring dashboards for any critical issues
across DB2 systems. Check for any new service requests or incidents
related to data management. Prioritize tasks based on urgency and
impact. Communication: Respond to emails and messages related to
data management tasks. Participate in daily stand-up meetings (if
applicable) to provide updates on progress and any roadblocks.
Documentation: Document all work performed, including changes made,
issues encountered, and resolutions. Update knowledge base articles
as needed. DB2 Administration (Bare Metal Red Hat Linux): Database
Monitoring: Monitor DB2 database performance metrics (CPU usage,
memory usage, disk I/O, buffer pool hit ratios). Check for any
database errors or warnings in the DB2 diagnostic logs. Deploy,
maintain and monitor DB2 monitoring utilities including IBM DMC
Develop scripts and tools to automate ongoing monitoring and
maintenance for DB2 Monitor database backup and recovery processes.
Maintenance: Perform routine database maintenance tasks (e.g.,
running RUNSTATS, REORGCHK, REORG). Apply database patches and
upgrades as needed (following change management procedures).
Security: Review DB2 security settings and user access privileges.
Monitor for any unauthorized access attempts. Mandatory
Qualification: Database Architect - Determines database structural
requirements by analyzing client operations, applications, and
programming; reviews objectives with clients; evaluates current
systems; provides database support by coding utilities, responding
to user questions, and resolving problems. Expert - 84 months:
Candidate is able to provide guidance to large teams and/or has
extensive industry experience and is considered at the top of
his/her field. Requested Qualifications: -72 Months DB2 Database
Administration Expertise: Experience in administering DB2 databases
on Linux environments, including installation, configuration,
performance tuning, backup/recovery, and security management - 84
Months Red Hat Linux Proficiency: Experience with Red Hat Linux
operating systems, including command-line administration,
scripting, and system troubleshooting. - 84 Months Database
Performance Tuning and Optimization Expertise: Experience with
analyzing and resolving performance bottlenecks in Db2 databases,
including query optimization, index management, buffer pool tuning,
and workload management. - 84 Months High Availability and Disaster
Recovery (HADR) for Db2: Experience in setting up, configuring, and
managing Db2 HADR solutions to ensure business continuity and data
resilience. - 60 months Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Expertise:
Experience with GCP services relevant to database deployments, such
as Compute Engine (for bare metal instances), networking (VPCs,
firewalls), storage (Persistent Disks), and IAM for access control.
- 60 months Scripting and Automation: Experience in scripting
languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl for automating routine
database administration tasks, deployments, and monitoring. - 60
months Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Experience in analyzing
and problem solving to quickly diagnose and resolve complex issues
related to Db2, RHEL, and their interaction within the GCP
environment. - 84 Months Backup and Recovery Strategies: Experience
in designing, implementing, and testing robust backup and recovery
strategies for Db2 databases, including full, incremental, and log
backups, and performing point-in-time recoveries. - 84 Months
Monitoring and Alerting: Experience with setting up and utilizing
monitoring tools (e.g., Dynatrace, Data Management Console, or
GCP's native monitoring tools) to track Db2 and RHEL system health,
performance, and to configure proactive alerts. - 84 Months
Security Best Practices: Experience in implementation of security
best practices for both Db2 databases and RHEL systems, including
user and group management, access control, encryption, and
vulnerability management.
