Registered Nurse (RN) | Operating Room Location: Lawrence, MA Agency: Cynet Health Pay: $1,983 per week Shift Information: Days - 3 days x 12 hours Contract Duration: 13 Weeks Start Date: 2/2/2026 About the Position Job Title: Infection Preventionist Profession: Nursing Specialty: Infection Prevention Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum Years of Experience Required Description: The Infection Preventionist (IP) is responsible for the development, assessment, implementation, monitoring, and management of the infection prevention program. The IP will work to identify, investigate, monitor, and report healthcare-associated infections and communicable diseases. The IP collaborates with teams and individuals to create, educate, and sustain infection prevention strategies. The role includes providing feedback and conducting ongoing staff training and quality assurance performance improvement monitoring. The IP ensures adherence to organizational standards, professional guidelines, state, and federal regulations. Collaboration with the leadership team allows for the development and oversight of the Antibiotic Stewardship Program. The Infection Preventionist reports to the Director of Nursing. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Program Management: Develop, implement, and evaluate the organizational infection prevention program. This includes policies and procedures for surveillance, pandemic preparedness, hand hygiene, standard precautions, employee and resident infection control education, employee health, outbreak management, and transmission-based precautions. Establish routine, ongoing, and systematic collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of surveillance data to identify infections and infection risks. Ensure the Antibiotic Stewardship Program meets all regulatory and reporting requirements. Develop an annual surveillance plan based on the population served and analysis of surveillance data. Coordinate the facility's annual infection control risk assessment and report to the quality assessment and performance improvement committee. Conduct surveillance following current definitions of infection and standard methodologies for case identification, data collection, and reporting. Participate in national collaboratives and external reporting as required. Design and Deliver Education: Provide infection prevention education at the time of hire, no less than annually, and when lapses in adherence occur. Act as a subject matter expert and resource regarding infection prevention and control measures. Create a process for demonstrating competencies following each training activity. Regulatory Requirements: Comply with regulatory and mandatory reporting requirements at the local, state, and federal levels. Maintain current knowledge of regulatory agencies and public health guidelines as it relates to infection prevention. Performance Improvement: Participate in interdisciplinary performance and quality improvement processes. Serve as a member of the quality assessment and performance improvement committee and report on the infection prevention control program regularly. Occupational Health: Participate in the development/review of occupational health policies related to infection prevention and control. Review the risk of bloodborne pathogens and exposure control plans to ensure best practices are implemented. Develop rates and trends of occupational exposures, such as needle stick injuries. Assist with immunization and screening programs. Apply work restrictions and recommendations related to communicable diseases. Monitor resident care practices and develop/maintain the resident health program. Participate in the antibiotic stewardship program that includes antibiotic use protocols and monitoring systems. Conduct environmental rounding to observe infection control and prevention compliance in various departments.
