Job Title: Technologist or Technician Profession: Technologist or Technician Specialty: Sterile Processing Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Evening Hours per Shift: 7.5 Experience: 1.5 years if tertiary experience; 2 years if not License: High School Diploma or equivalent required Certifications: Sterile processing certification (CRCST or CSPD) must not expire during term of assignment Must-Have: - Ability to lift/carry 25 pounds - Manual dexterity and ability to stand, bend, lift, and/or reach for extended periods of time - Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbally and in writing) and follow oral and/or written instructions Description: This is a large, busy state-of-the-art off-site reprocessing center providing sterile processing services. The facility provides emergency services for the area. The role requires working every other weekend. The position involves disassembling, cleaning, sterilizing, reassembling, and packaging sterile supplies according to specifications and manufacturer instructions. It is necessary to follow department protocols. Responsibilities include operating washers, sterilizers, ultrasonic machines, steam and ethylene oxide sterilizers, heat sealers, and additional equipment during sterilization procedures. Instrument count sheets for surgical sets and case carts must be adhered to. The role involves retrieving used trays, instruments, and equipment from various surgical and clinical areas for decontamination. Examination of instruments and patient care equipment for cleanliness, proper assembly, and functionality is required. Identifying malfunctioning items, recording related information, and promptly notifying a supervisor or biomedical engineer is crucial. Assisting in ordering, stocking, and maintaining department inventory levels is part of the duties. Performing required duties to maintain a contaminant-free work environment is essential. Scrubs will be provided and must be laundered on-site. Shoes, jewelry, hair, and beard must be covered. Nail polish is not permitted.
