Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team
as a Physician Assistant - Operating Room - Full Time. In this
role, the successful candidate The Physician Assistant Service is
dedicated to providing quality, professional, cost-effective health
care to all patients at NYU Langone HospitalSuffolk. Physician
assistants (PA) practice medicine under the supervision of a
licensed physician fulfilling a broad range of medical services
that would otherwise be provided by the physician. The PA shall be
permitted to provide any service within his/her scope of
training/skills delegated by the supervising physician or the
patients physician that has been approved by the Credentials
Committee and is within the scope of practice of the physician. PAs
provide care for in- and outpatients primarily in-house including,
the Emergency Department, Pre-Admission Testing, the operating
room, Employee Health, Psych Care, including pediatrics. Job
Responsibilities: Introduces/identifies self as a physician
assistant Performs initial assessment/history and physical
examination Orders and interprets tests/results(lab, radiol., ekg,
etc.)based on patient need Documents care in the chart in
accordance with Hospital policy & procedure Formulates diagnoses
Formulates and implements treatment plan Consults with physician
when required based on patient's condition Reassesses patients
Orders, applies, removes, reapplies restraints Provides emergency
medical care including Code 64 management Triages patientsED only
Performs Trauma assessment/reassessment (Trauma Team only) Legibly
documents in patient chart, departmental forms, and any other
Hospital forms all pertinent patient information following
departmental and Hospital policies. Documents any patient or family
education on the Hospital patient and family education form. All
orders and entries dated and timed Level of documentation matches
severity of situation Results of tests ordered documented Procedure
notes completed Follow-up/consultation with physician documented
Verbal/telephone orders signed, dated, and timed by end of shift
Billing forms completed fully and submittedhouse only Discharge
instructions written and given-ED only Explains procedure to
patient/family Uses sterile technique Performs procedures following
accepted standards of careIVs, foley cath, NGT, CVL removal, etc.
Suturing-technique, suture selection, etc. Splinting-technique-ED
only Assists in surgery-technique-OR credentialled only Performs
CAT scan/MRI injections Demonstrates positive Service
Excellence/customer satisfaction, positive attitude towards change,
effective time management, positive communication skills, the
ability to constructively give and accept feedback, and solid
problem solving skills Demonstrates the medical, technical, and
personal skills to assess, reassess, & manage patients Knows one's
limitations and seeks help if needed Demonstrates the ability to
concentrate and pay close attention to detail Works as team member
in multidisciplinary manner Maintains knowledge of current trends
and techniques in the field by reading appropriate journals, books
and other literature and attending related seminars, conferences
and the like. Assists in inter-and intra-departmental instruction.
Abides by all federal and state laws, rules, and regulations
Answers pages immediately (unless busy) using name and title-house
only Participates in performance assessment and improvement studies
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Graduate of a PA
program accredited by The Accreditation Review Commission on
Education for the Physician Assistant, or its predecessor. Current
NCCPA certification Current New York State license as Registered
Physician Assistant Current BLS & ACLS documentation (From AHA
only) Current Pediatric Life Support (PALS) from AHA only. Requires
the psychomotor skills, including walking, to perform examinations
and procedures. The interpersonal and customer service skills
necessary to communicate effectively with patients, their family
members, physicians, nursing, and other Hospital personnel when
exchanging patient status, care, and treatment information.
Requires the ability to recognize and address the psychosocial
needs of patients and their families, and the ability and skills
necessary to attend to special needs relating to the patient's age
and diagnosis. The ability to concentrate and pay close attention
to detail for approximately seventy-five percent of work time for
responsibilities such as providing patient care, operating and
monitoring equipment, and recording data in patient charts. The
ability to walk and stand for approximately seventy-five percent of
work time, and to lift, pull, push, and/or carry items such as
equipment weighing up to twenty pounds or patients on stretchers
for approximately twenty-five percent of work time when providing
patient care Required Licenses: Physician Assistant Lic-NYS, Ntl
